A cruising lunch and a quayside reception are different briefs

A yacht underway gives a fixed group time together away from the waterfront. A reception at berth may involve arrivals, departures and a different rhythm of service. Do not assume that an ordinary cruising charter includes a suitable event berth or permission for a larger alongside gathering.

Describe the format accurately, including the expected total and whether people will come and go. The operator can then assess the actual yacht, access and arrangements. A clear distinction also makes quotations more comparable, because the port and event requirements can be addressed explicitly.

Choose the room for the conversation

For a client meeting, consider whether guests can hear one another and sit naturally around the same table. A team social afternoon may work better with smaller informal groups and several outdoor areas. If an address, screen or interview is part of the programme, describe the equipment and the conditions it needs.

Connectivity and power should be confirmed rather than assumed. A yacht’s large exterior spaces do not automatically make it a suitable conference room. Sometimes the most effective format is a good meal and an uninterrupted discussion, with the coast providing the change of scene.

Connect the yacht to the Cannes programme

A guest leaving a meeting near the Palais and a guest arriving at Port Canto face different transfers. Confirm the actual berth and build joining instructions around it. During a busy event period, supplier access and guest arrival deserve particular attention.

The film festival and Cannes Lions guides address those event-specific enquiries; a general corporate charter should not claim access, accreditation or an event location that has not been arranged. Work backwards from the next appointment ashore, allowing for disembarkation and transport as well as the captain’s return schedule.

Give one organiser a complete operating picture

Nominate a contact who can approve timings, menu changes and the final guest list. Share dietary requirements, branding proposals and anything that must be loaded before boarding. Equipment and signage must leave crew routes and safety features usable.

Ask the quotation to identify the yacht, berth, crew, catering, fuel or route scope, event support and complete cost. Invoicing details and cancellation terms should be settled before the programme is circulated. A well-defined offer makes the day easier for both the organiser and the guests, without relying on a generic promise of luxury hospitality.

Charter questions

Can a yacht remain at the quay for a business reception?

Request that format explicitly. The vessel, berth, guest arrangements and any relevant permissions must be assessed for the event.

Does a Cannes charter include festival or congress access?

No such access should be assumed. Describe the event context and confirm any separate arrangements with the appropriate organiser.
